Wii Kicks Recession Worries To The Curb

It looks like there really is no stopping the Wii bandwagon train as record numbers are being recorded for Wii hardware sales in 2008. We still have about 3 more weeks of prime time holiday shopping left in the year and the Wii is on pace fly right by the 10 million mark just in the US and over 20 million units world wide. Those are just the numbers for the Wii itself that’s not even counting the boat loads of software that is flying off the shelves as well.

The other two consoles in the market are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to sales figures. Nintendo continues to be the darling of media and the public that just can’t seem to get enough of the Wii and all it’s motion moving glory. Nintendo’s strong showing throughout the year has helped to keep the gaming industry in the green for the year. Which is not something that can be said for a lot of industries right now. So far the gaming industry has proven to be recession proof as people continue to buy new games and new gaming consoles.

get big!The two games that have stayed at the top of the charts for Nintendo and continue to be big sellers for the Wii are Mario Kart Wii and the Wii Fit. Both games appear to be a standard required purchase when it comes to the Wii. These two games alone are responsible for over 20 million sales as both games passed the 10 million mark in 2008. That is a staggering amount of sales especially when you consider that they are both games that were made in house at Nintendo. So they are just reaping huge cash rewards on both ends with hardware and software sales.

Remember I am only talking about the success of the Wii here as well, this does not even take into consideration the huge success Nintendo is having with their DS unit. I have seen some discrepancy lately in the reporting of how much Nintendo is actually making on each hardware unit that they sell. No matter what the number is you know when it’s all tallied up they are winning big time! With all the cash they have coming in how long do you think it will be before we see a more powerful Wii machine?
