The Wii news for new games has been very thin the last few months especially when you consider that there have been two major gaming conferences in the past two months. We all know what a big let down Nintendo was at the E3 and for them to totally blow off the GC in Germany this year was big uh oh sign when it comes to their upcoming games.
What the heck is going on Nintendo? Where is all the innovation when it comes to your games? It feels like the patient gamers that have helped you through the bad times and now the good times are getting very wary of all the crappy games that you have released over the last two years. Even the casual gamers that you are catering to now will only buy so much crap before they just stop buying altogether. Any observant gamer who spends anytime reading blogs or forums will agree that the Wii well is not going to last forever and the lack of games is only going to speed up the dying process.
The only real game on the Wii that seems to be generating any buzz latelty is the new game The Conduit. Now I have posted a trailer here for the game that tries to highlight the gameplay and brag about the “awards” that the developer High Voltage Software won at the 2008 E3. Now I wil admit that for a Wii game it does look pretty good. It’s also nice to see what looks to be a decent FPS for the Wii as well. That’s where the goodness stops for me unfortunately. The scenes that are shown don’t look revolutionary in any way not when you have games like Gears 2, Resistance 2 and Killzone2 with features like co op play online multi multi players depending on the game. Enemies galore with explosions happening all over the screen at the same time running at a smooth 60fps and on an on with features. The Conduit video showed some run and gun tactics but watch how many enemies are on the screen at one time or the rather bland graphics in comparison to the other games mentioned.
Granted the Wii does not have the chops to graphically keep up with those other games but guess what that is the market you are in and those are your direct competitors. I don’t blame the developer, I actually give big credit to High Voltage Software for pulling off a FPS game for the Wii as there are not many of them out there for the Wii. This is the game that is pushing the Wii to the limits with it’s new engine running the game. Honestly this is it, these are the limits for the Wii? Looks good I suppose but it also looks to be a sad day for the hardcore gamers of Nintendo as they truly have left us out in the wind, Wii Music need we say more?
Anyway here is the clip for The Conduit showing off some of the game play as well as some of the awards it won at E3. You tell me do you see an award winning game here? Share your opinions….
